Answer

Whenever you'd like to know if APU Libraries can provide you with a particular journal article, the first place you should go is the APU Libraries website. Once you're there, select the 'Periodical Finder' tool from the 'More Search Options' menu or select 'Periodical Finder' from the drop-down menu to the right of the search box (see graphic).

Next, type the title of the journal into the search box (do NOT type in the article title), and click 'Search' or 'Go.' Look for the journal title in the results.  For the American Journal of Psychiatry, you should get a results list with four items (see graphic).

The 'Print/Microform titles for Azusa Pacific' link indicates that APU Libraries has this title in the print journal collection. If this were the only result, you would need to check to see that APU Libraries actually has the particular volume/issue you need (by clicking on the link), and then you would go to the library that has it and make a copy of the article.

However, in this case, there are three online databases that contain full-text articles for the American Journal of Psychiatry. Check to make sure that the issue you need is included in at least one of the date ranges you see to the left of the database links. So, if the article you want is from, say, a 2004 issue, you should be able to get the full-text of the article through either ProQuest Research Library or EBSCOhost EJS.

To get the article online, click on either one of the database links. For ProQuest Research Library, you will be taken to a list of issues for American Journal of Psychiatry. Click on the link for the issue you need. You will then see a list of all the articles for that particular issue. Find the article you need (articles are usually listed in order by page number, or alphabetically by title), and click on either the 'Text+Graphics' link, or the 'Full Text - PDF' link.

For other journal titles that you enter into Periodical Finder, you may get the message, '0 records retrieved for the search.' If this happens, it means that APU Libraries can't provide the article for you online through a database, or from our print collection. You may still obtain the article through our free Article Reach service. Click here to go to the Article Reach form.
