Go to the library’s main page: https://www.apu.edu/library/
Click on the tab “Books and Media”
Type (or copy and paste) the book’s title in the single box and click Search
Example:
The next page shows the book record in our library catalog. But notice for this book (the bottom arrow), it is checked out. To still get a copy, there are two options. For both options, begin by clicking on the book’s title (top arrow).
Option 1 Place Hold Request - click on the red button that says Request this Item.
This takes you to a page where you can submit a Place Hold Request (see below).
Placing a “hold” on a book means when the book returns you get an email that tells you the book is now available for you to pick up at one of the three APU library circulation desks. This request also allows you to state if you need the book by specific dates, bottom arrow.
If you live outside 15 miles of the main Azusa campus, you can request that the book be sent to your address. Just click on the drop down button under Pick Up Options.
Option 2 Request Interlibrary Loan – return to the page that had the Request this Item red box in the upper right corner. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. The Request this Item box will follow on the right as you scroll down.
Click on the box under “Other Availability & Holdings” that says “Other Libraries Worldwide (# Libraries). The next page allows you to see what libraries have the book that are closest by location, second arrow. You can easily change the location in the box.
To request an Interlibrary Loan of the book from another library just click on the red button on the top right that says “Request from Interlibrary Loan.”
On the next page you will see an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) form that is all filled out with the book information and your personal information.
To request the book through ILL click the box next to “Copyright Acknowledged,” check that your personal information is correct, and then click “Submit request.” Your ILL request will be processed. It takes up to 7 to 10 business days for the book to come to the library. You will then get an email that the book is ready to pick up at the APU library you requested. Also, on this page you can select for the book to come to your home if your address is outside 15 miles of the Azusa campus.
After making the request, go to the main page of the library (https://www.apu.edu/library/) and in the upper left click on “My Library Account.” Then click “Requests.” Now you will see your ILL request, what date you requested the book, and what the status is.
